Horizon to manage multi-million pound Kirknewton housing development

The project will have cost nearly £1,950,000 by the time it is completed,  and is funded by the Rural and Islands Housing Fund from Scottish Government, the Scottish Land Fund, Ecology Building Society and Kirknewton Community Development Trust Ltd. Architectural Design and Management is being undertaken by Robertson Architecture & Design, Livingston.

The site is at the east end of the village of Kirknewton, lying between the former main road to the Camps level-crossing and the Jencks Stones, the railway line and Main Street.

These homes are designed to near Passivhaus standard with the help of the Horizon Housing Association, a member of the Link Group.  The  homes support accessible and inclusive living, and of course sustainability. They have been developed by and for the community, reflecting the ethos of the origins of the community housing sector. Horizon’s accessible housing ambassador, Scottish Paralympian Aileen Nelson says: “Having been lucky enough to travel all over the world, we faced many challenges finding suitable accessible accommodation so it’s really important for accessible housing to be developed which is of the right size and right type to meet a range of needs.”

Possession of the site by Colorado will be take place on or around the 3rd July and the projected programme is 43 weeks.  Horizon Housing Association are being appointed managers. For those interested in  the possibility of taking up occupation, applications are not being taken at the moment, but will most likely be in the coming winter of 2023.
