Care and Repair

Care and Repair West Lothian is a free and confidential service available to owner-occupiers and private tenants who are over 60 years of age or who have a disability.

The service offiers independent advice and assistance to help people repair, improve or adapt their homes and we meet with clients in the comfort of their own homes, in familiar surroundings often with family and close friends in attendance.  This puts clients at ease and encourages a trusting relationship between the Care and Repair Officer and the client.

Since Care and Repair was established in 2001, we have grown steadily into a vital resource for older and disabled home owners and private tenants within West Lothian, with over a thousand people contacting us for some form of assistance on an annual basis.

In terms of home improvement works and adaptations, we can provide assistance by preparing specifications; acquiring prices from approved contractors; applying for grants or loans which may be available for the works and managing the works through to completion.

In addition, we receive a number of enquiries where only advice is required.  This can involve one telephone conversation or a referral to another agency, or may require a home visit to discuss the matter in more detail.

Advice is given on many subjects, including general building advice, but the most common request is for details of reliable contractors.
